Overweight America
Back in the day, people’s workout and weight-loss programs worked with exercise through running, biking, walking, lifting weights and nutrition. Let me rephrase it: Where did ‘working out hard’ go? When did exercise become a chore? Remember the sports movies like Fame and Victory? Whatever happened to aerobics and leg warmers? Remember the kids emulating their sports heroes, running football plays, playing stick ball in the streets? I miss hearing young voices calling out, “Game off! Game on!” in my neighborhood. We ran and when we did, we smiled. I watch my son running. His thoughts aren’t that it is a bad thing or a chore for him — he runs laughing, as though it is a way of life.
Because for a child fun is exercise and exercise is fun.
America where did we go? Why are America’s children obese? Kids are overweight because we are letting them play video games and eat fast food. Because we are working so hard, as Eddie Murphy put it, “trying to give our kids the G.I. Joe with the kung-fu grip”and to get ahead and give our families a good life, we’ve forgotten, it seems, about some things that should be fundamentally important: we let our health deteriorate as we work our long hours. In giving our loved ones everything, we take away what is most precious: their health, their fitness, their self esteem.
Here is a plug for McDonalds. My parents took me to McDonalds about once a week or once every 10 days. Not every day! The harsh reality is that kids should love Ronald McDonald and everything that comes with it, with moderation. A Double cheeseburger, small fries, and a small coke is 720 calories, and a double quarter pounder, a large coke and a large fries is 1600 calories! An alternate choice is a hamburger, a small fries and a kid drink which has 610 calories. That still isn’t the greatest, but if kids are working out and eating right most of the time, it doesn’t matter. Let them live life. This diet lifestyle and weight loss program has to be taught. If they had a balanced diet they could eat anything that they want within reason. I have had kids in my Weightloss Boot Camp age 12 at 220 pounds. It isn’t McDonalds, it is just the parents responsibility to make sure that it’s not every day. That is not a balanced diet. Nutrition is fuel! Kids need fuel to grow. Without the right fuel their bodies cannot perform the correct way. So they don’t end up at a Fat Farm, Boot camp, or Weight-loss Camp, we need to start paying more attention to their diets.
When I was a kid my diet consisted of a Protein, a potato, rice ( a carbohydrate) and a salad or green vegetable. We would play outside until the dreaded cry from Mom yelling “It‘s getting dark! Come inside for dinner!” (Hence: exercise and fitness is over). My mom had to yell sometimes 5-6 times. I didn’t want the fun and exercise to stop. That’s right, exercise was fun and still can be.
At this time I have trained thousands and it is all the same. You must exercise often and eat many small meals per day. Is that sexy? No it is realistic. At Camp Technique‘s live-in weight loss boot camp we exercise hard and old-fashioned. In the extreme weight-loss program everyone exercises at their level. For some, it’s walking, increasing to a slow jog, or just a lot of personal training, biking and so on. As they progress into a complete lifestyle change program, they have lost more weight, and they are able to slow jog. We must move to lose weight. Of course, we eat a balanced nutrition plan. Simple. We are not re-inventing the wheel, and maybe I didn’t need to go to school and have trained so many people to give this advice. Bottom line: Camp Technique teaches people what they already know — how to lose weight. At our live-in Boot camp, we teach them how to incorporate exercise and a healthy diet into their lives, and how to become motivated again. I don’t believe in any fad diet out there or miracle pill nonsense. It might work slightly, but what will it do to you later? Remember phen-phen? I know people who have to declare medically that they had once taken it. Phen-Phen can affect how you are treated medically. Liposuction can only take out 5-6 pounds of fat. If you need a program you can call it a Fat Farm, a boot camp, a weightloss retreat or even a spa-alternative. Bottom line, whether you have 100 or 30 pounds to lose it is not about us, it is about you losing the weight and keeping it off forever. If you choose Camp Technique, we will work you out the old-fashioned way. This is our philosophy: tough old-school principles, diet and exercise that, quite simply, work. No matter what you decide to do in life, move, move, lose the weight, find the smile you had as a kid during exercise and fitness. Maybe you have to go way back to two years old… go back, find your motivation, and don’t let anyone — especially yourself — tell you that you cant! You can lose that excess fat, get in shape, and change your diet. Come to Camp Technique, and I’ll show you how!
Good luck, and go be great today!
